Live Your Best Life

You’re more afraid of living than dying.

You’re thinking of security instead of opportunity.

(Bear in mind, security, especially in your job is no longer a guarantee.)

Life can be tough, our jobs can be tough.

Kudos to you for sticking to it.

But, does it have to be that way?

Ok, picture this……

It’s Monday

Alarm goes off

You get up

You eat breakfast

You sit in traffic

You get to work

You sit down

You look at the clock on the wall

You say; “Ahh no, only another 20, 30, 40 (delete as appropriate) years to go!”

Sound familiar in some way?

Does it resonate in some way?

Yep, thought so.

It’s what we do but we never seem to anything about it.

It’s only really at New Year or when we come back off vacation that we only really tend to take stock of our lives.

And for a split second, we motivate ourselves to actually think about changing our lives for the better.

A Gallup poll in 2019 found that 85%, yes 85% of people are unhappy in their job.

But we’re so stuck within our little bubble that we fear change.

Yet we all complain about the early starts, the long days, the 2 day weekend (if we’re lucky!) that passes by in the blink of an eye.

How many of us respond when asked about our weekend say?: “Too short”.

I know I did!

But do we do something about it? No, because our comfort zone is what keeps us safe.

And sometimes the routine can be comforting as well.

‘I can’t wait until I retire, then I’ll have all the time in the world to do what I want’ is what is often said.

But saying that means we’re just wishing our life away!

And it’s too late by then.

Years have been wasted, time has eroded.

Actually some people reach this milestone and don’t know what to do next. (Sadly, my father died 8 days before he was due to officially retire, so never had the opportunity to ‘enjoy’ his retirement).

They’ve been so engrained with the rat race that they’ve been accustomed to binge watching TV shows and screaming at their favourite sports team from the couch at the weekend! (And I should know – my team is solely responsible for my transient high blood pressure!!)

So what is it that’s stopping you from changing your lifestyle to be able to live your best life?

What people will think of you? Sure, no one wants to hear “I told you so”.

Can’t afford to do it? Yeah, that is a worry for loads of people. We all need to put food on the table.

And if the comfort of a steady income ensures that we can afford some small luxuries in our lives, then that’s great.

Wouldn’t know where start looking? Yep, so much information out there. And boy, does it look complicated!

Too much hassle and upheaval? Of course, our jobs are tough and take a lot out of us both physically and mentally.

Do you really want to be spending any of your free time looking at doing something else?

Now, let’s revisit those thoughts.

Do you really care about what people think of you? It’s as if we’re all like corporate lemmings following each other off a cliff.

We all feel we have to adhere to the same principle – get educated, get a good job, family, nice house, nice car etc.

And what if anyone steps out of line and goes maverick? You can guarantee there will a queue of people just waiting to have their say!

Well, let me throw this at you. They’re telling their story, not yours.

Who do need to impress?

When you come to the realisation that you don’t have to prove anything to anyone, your true life will begin.

Financial solvency is a worry for most people.

And whilst it’s been said that being a millionaire won’t necessarily make you happy, it’s a damn sight better than hardly having any at all!

Believe me, I’ve been there!

But wealth itself isn’t just all about the money.

Even if you’re lucky enough, what’s the point of several zeros on your bank account statement if you know more about your work colleagues children than you do your own?

Yeah, I get it.

You want to be able to earn to afford those family vacations, the nice days out, the fancy meals out with your significant other.

It may be that you just want to earn to provide for your family, to ensure that they are able to eat three meals a day. It is a constant worry.

But there are other ways than being stuck in the rat race.

We’re all aware of the internet these days. It’s a vast landscape and a minefield of information.

Who knows what to believe? And where do you start looking for things to go about changing your life?

And don’t get me started on scammers!

The e-vultures all waiting to pounce on some unsuspecting newbie by sucking the numbers of their credit card to feed their dirty fiscal bellies.

But, with some due diligence, it can be done – quite easily.

Despite what I just said, there are a huge amount of people out there willing to part with very useful information.

And yes, it will take time to find the right thing.

Even to the ardent internetter (I just made up that word), it can be time consuming work!

The last thing you want to be doing after a hard day at the office is searching for another way to make money, right?

But nothing comes easy in life, we know that.

Whatever we do, it’s going to take effort.

Is the life you want on the other side of the things you don’t want to do?

Which is it you want?

The pain of staying where you are now? Or the pain of changing your life for the better?

Either way, you need to choose your pain.

In fact, when the pain of staying is greater than the pain of change itself, that’s the time when change happens.

Despite this, too many people go through life complaining about their lives, about their job.

But if they took a fraction of the energy they put into complaining and put it into doing something about it, just imagine what they could achieve?

The great Socrates said: ‘The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new’.

So let’s ask ourselves this; what is it we really crave?

I’m guessing it’s this;

What if you could earn an income that gives you the time and freedom to do all the things you want to do; the things that you don’t need to wait until retirement to do?

Something where you don’t have to trade your time for money?

Something that gives you flexibility and freedom to live life on your terms?

Well, here’s that ‘Eureka’ moment!
